Accomplishments
The Charles County Commissioners have worked hard over the past 4 years to improve the quality of life in Charles County. Take a look at some our accomplishments.
Housing
- Creation of Housing Authority and the passage of key legislation, which provides more affordable housing options
- Implementation of the Rural Housing Improvement Initiative
Education
- Approved County’s 7th high school
- Provided funding to support highest performing majority/minority public school system in Maryland
- Approved funding for new library on O’Donnell Lake Drive
Business/Employment
- Creation of the Indian Head Tech Park and the opening of several new businesses despite the economic turndown
- Passage of prevailing wage legislation
- Passage of Minority Business Enterprise program
Public Safety
- Increased funding for public safety the first two years in office and the number of sworn officers on the street
- Opened new sheriff’s department in Waldorf
Infrastructure & Growth
- Repeal of counterproductive zoning text amendment, which would have encouraged development in the County’s deferred development district
- Investment in infrastructure that improved County roads such as Western Parkway, St. Charles Parkway, and Middleton Road
- Sidewalk improvement program to benefit pedestrian traffic in the Waldorf Urban Center
- WSSC water connection
Government
- Overhaul of County employee manual and the operation of the Charles County government
- Creation of several initiatives to establish Charles County as a “transparent open” government
Transportation
- Expanded VanGo route service in the Waldorf business loop
Finance
- Achieved the County’s first AAA bond rating
